Artists are influenced by the situations they are put into, and by the environments they surround themselves with. During the time that I was the primary care giver for my son I learned a lot about mark making. This series is about the voluntary and involuntary mark making of a child – the spills, the splatters, the sprays and the fingerprints.
The Asian influences are evident in the floral elements and the spare, geometric composition. While I have always admired Asian art, my son’s studies of Chinese as a second language led to a reintroduction to this work. I have taken liberties with these elements and transformed them into a sophisticated use of color with formal elements that contribute to the over all presentation of the work.
